Para Dressage

« Back to Glossary Index

Para Dressage is the Paralympic discipline of dressage for athletes with physical or visual impairments. Riders perform prescribed tests and an individual freestyle (kür) judged on accuracy, harmony, and artistic impression. Competitors are classified into Grades I–V so athletes with similar functional ability compete together. Tests are ridden in 20×40 m or 20×60 m arenas depending on grade, and adaptive tack or compensatory aids are permitted to enable effective communication with the horse.

It has been part of the Paralympic programme since 1996 and emphasizes rider–horse harmony, precise execution of movements, and fair competition through classification
